This first chapter introduces the context and the topic of this dissertation. Firstly, it sets the scene for a dissertation that examines the impact of suppliers on the ability of a firm to satisfy customers, society and shareholders. Then, we define the problem statement and develop an overall research framework for the dissertation research.
