Testimonials

"In my work as a product and service manager, I and my colleagues ensure that the Police can do their job properly. We conclude contracts with market parties for the provision of essential services or the production and delivery of products that the police use. We then ensure that the contract is properly complied with and we build a cooperative relationship with the suppliers.

I am proud of my work for the Police. When I encounter the Police on the street, or read reports about the Police in the media, I know that I have made an important contribution to the work that they do. The organization is at the heart of society and has to deal with all developments in our society. This ensures that no day is the same and that we are constantly faced with new, interesting challenges."
"I have been working for the Police for over 18 years and have had the opportunity to hold various fun positions. I am proud to be able to work for the Police. In recent years I have been working for the Acquisition Service. A Service where I enjoy working as an Implementation Manager and now also as a Project Leader for the Talent Program. Within the Acquisition Service, there is a lot of attention for personal development, training and growth. It is incredibly cool that you contribute to making good police work possible.

Every implementation is different, this is because we as an organization continue to innovate and develop. It remains a fun challenge to work together with the business and the supplier on the realization of the necessary preconditions, conditions and facilities. Before you know it, you are on the shooting ranges and you watch colleagues in the operations. Or you are on a training ground and you are allowed to drive around the circuit in a vehicle. Or you get insight into how large Police Campaigns are set up. All this so that you know who you are doing it for".
"The police organization appealed to me because it is very clear for whom you ultimately do the work: for all police officers and specifically the police on the streets, who ensure that Dutch citizens feel safe and protected every day. That feeling of safety is not self-evident, especially given the situation in other countries. We have to work hard every day to maintain it.

I have a broad interest in business administration and like to move between different layers within an organization. In the first few weeks, my own experience and conversations with several colleagues confirmed that you can orient yourself broadly within the police. The open organizational structure offers opportunities to take a look at different departments and to focus on improving internal processes, for example, in addition to your daily work. In short, the police offer a meaningful and open environment in which you can continue to develop both horizontally and vertically for a long time."

Testimonials

"Until two years ago, I had never heard of purchasing or tendering. By chance, I came across the learning path for novice purchasers on the website of the municipality of Rotterdam. This immediately appealed to me. I was ready for a new challenge in which I could invest in myself and develop further. I thought the idea of being able to independently run Multiple Negotiated Tenders after two years was great!

Although the job description stated that a completed higher professional education was required, regardless of the direction, I did not expect that I would have a chance with my social background. With a positive and driven attitude, I seized this opportunity with both hands! Thanks to the trust and support of my colleagues, I have now supervised various great tender procedures and I learn something new every day. The municipality also offers space for additional training in addition to the purchasing profession, which contributes to my development as an all-round purchaser. I have now grown into a mid-level purchaser".
"Six years ago I started at the municipality of Rotterdam as a junior purchaser. After my studies I had already gained some work experience, but I did not feel like I was really in the right place. Through intermediaries I was referred to the learning path of the purchasing & ABZ department: a path in which you are trained from junior to senior purchaser. Within the learning path I found what I was looking for: a challenging work environment and position in which I could further develop myself. When I started I had no experience in the field of purchasing or tendering. This knowledge is gradually taught to you within the path through practical experience and courses. The development is reinforced by the colleagues. Within Rotterdam there is always a colleague who wants to think along with you or can explain something to you, the team aspect is highly valued. In addition to the fact that this makes the learning process very accessible, I was also assigned a coach: an experienced colleague who thought along not only in the professional field but also about my personal development. I look back happily on the step I took at the time.

I am now a senior buyer and I focus mainly on the social domain, where the tenders are very diverse and continuously changing. What I like most is that you have to delve into new, complex subjects all the time, which makes the work very dynamic. But the most valuable thing for me is that I actually see the result of my work in the city or with the residents of Rotterdam. That gives me enormous satisfaction and is ultimately what you do it for!"
At the Municipality of Rotterdam, the work as a purchaser is challenging and extremely diverse. You work for the nicest city in the Netherlands and you come across all kinds of things in the city that you or your direct colleagues have purchased. I started working for the municipality more than 7 years ago as an experienced purchaser and ended up in a professional organization where the processes are well organized. This gives the purchasers room to advise and have influence at the front end of the purchasing processes. We are working on small and large improvements in our work on all fronts and that also gives a lot of room for personal development. In the department there is a culture of willingness to help each other and to brainstorm about strategic purchasing choices, the implementation of award models, but also coaching and guidance.

In recent years I have supervised a number of juniors and I get a lot of energy and satisfaction from that. In the new program, together with the police, I am also looking forward to giving substance to the guidance on the work floor and to show what great purchasing processes we all do. Think of all the social services we purchase, but also the renovation of the central library, the purchase of circular paving stones, cars for the aldermen, and the inspection of playground equipment in the playgrounds in the city, and everything in between. In short, a very diverse field of work in a great organization.
