Suvi Julkunen – Rabobank – on the Procurement Talent Programme

News 2 minutes 11 September 2025

“From an early age, I was fascinated by how products move around the world. Perhaps that’s because I grew up in a Finnish port city, where ships are constantly coming and going,” says Suvi Julkunen.

She has only just started at Rabobank, but she has already built up considerable experience, including working as a freight forwarder. She earned a master’s degree in supply management at a Finnish university and a master’s in purchasing and supply management at the University of Twente. “Supply management is a very practical field, which suits my hands‑on mentality. The Procurement Talent Programme is a great combination of theory and practice: one day a week of training and four days of work. We also learn a lot from each other, because participants work at organisations across very different sectors.”

Through this training programme, she hopes to gain a solid understanding of the key procurement concepts and developments. “I really want to understand those. And also what the most important skills are for a successful procurement professional.” She definitely sees a future for herself in procurement — ideally on the strategic side, and possibly even as a CPO one day.

Given her background and education, it may come as a surprise that she now works at a bank. She hadn’t expected to join a financial services provider either. But what convinced her was the realisation that “there’s an entire world behind that bank card. What’s happening there? I’m passionate about that — it motivates me.”
