Chantal Hazenberg – FrieslandCampina – on the Procurement Talent Programme

News 2 minutes 09 September 2025

It is no coincidence that Chantal Hazenberg started her career at FrieslandCampina.

Her parents run a dairy farm and supply FrieslandCampina, so she already had some familiarity with her first employer. The international business and management degree she completed at the University of Groningen also fits well with the global character of the Dutch dairy company. Later in her studies, Chantal focused on the energy market and researched the hydrogen supply chain — which is how procurement came onto her radar. “It’s a practical and varied profession, working with data and engaging with many different types of stakeholders. Fascinating!” She applied to FrieslandCampina and was given the opportunity to take part in the Nevi Procurement Talent Programme.

“I want to keep learning throughout my career, and this programme is a great place to start. We’ve only just begun, and it’s fantastic to dive deeper and build procurement knowledge in a very structured, module‑based way. The classes are interactive — both between lecturers and students, and among the students themselves. Some of them already have a few years of procurement experience.”

Meetings with CPOs and procurement professors are also part of the programme, which Chantal says offers a valuable behind‑the‑scenes perspective.

In early September, she started as a junior buyer for Northern Netherlands at FrieslandCampina’s factory in Leeuwarden. Her focus: the entire source‑to‑contract process for both product‑related and non‑product‑related procurement. Not a bad start at all.

Does she see a long‑term career in this field? “I think so, but first I want to understand exactly what it entails — what roles exist and what I’m good at. But thanks in part to this training programme, I’ve already had a flying start!”
