Nevi responds to European public procurement directives

News 24 April 2025

The European Commission (EC) requested feedback on the revision of the directives on public procurement. In its role as a professional association, Nevi has responded to this call.

Every year, public authorities in the EU spend around 14% of GDP (more than €2.4 trillion) on the procurement of services, works and supplies. In many sectors, public authorities are the main and often the largest purchasing party, for example in energy, transport, waste management, healthcare and education services, and social protection.

In total, the European Commission received 949 responses, ranging from citizens in Bulgaria to French steel manufacturers. The Netherlands also made its voice heard with 31 submissions. Most responses came from municipalities, autonomous administrative bodies and ministries and from Nevi, whose key message was that European legislation should stimulate, facilitate and embed professional procurement.
